Yes Benoni, I can understand why you were not sure how to mark this photo. Furthermore, I knew the image would not score well but the challenge this month was a great opportunity to make a social and political point. Here, I am trying to highlight the issue of globalisation and mass consumption and raise the awareness of the damage we are doing to the environment for short-term profit and insatiable consumerism. We cannot see the damage or suffering caused beyond the propaganda of large corporations (assisted by governments and the media).
We blindly consume behind our masks with no identity. The mask in my image also depicts the death mask of humanity: our death mask. Indicating that fecundity will not weep behind the mask (our actions with no accountability) but will flourish through the blind eyes of humanity and will continue long after we are gone.
My preferred title was, Fecundity will not weep behind the death mask of humanity. But, I was 'told' not to use such a bleak title!
